Annual Meeting 2018 Completed! Thank you for a successful event!

2018 Utah ASLA Annual Meeting

Thanks to all the vendors, attendees and presenters that helped make the 2018 Annual Meeting in Park City a success!

-Tina Gillman, Past President

Park City was the location for this year’s chapter annual meeting this past June. Landscape architects, sponsors, clients, and guests packed the largest ballroom at the Park City Marriott for education sessions, an amazing expo, and an awards banquet. Keynote speaker and national ASLA President Greg Miller provided his outlook on the profession and what landscape architects can do as our profession continues to evolve. Patrick Singleton and Shawn Seager provided technical information on how landscape architects can work with allied professionals and use transportation to shape our communities. The work of landscape architects is broad and diverse.

Ben George, Andrew Quebbeman, Brandon Blauer, and Drew Hill demonstrated use of emerging virtual reality technology in design. They continued to be available to meet with landscape architects who want to know more about their pioneering work. Emma Stalka shared the environment of her childhood home in Sweden defined her values and encouraged landscape architects to define values are and let those values inform our design. A dynamic presentation by Lyn Christian taught the importance of defining your message and finding those who are passionate about what you do.

The annual meeting also included a total of four tours –Park City Main Street, Kimball Junction Transit Center, USU Swaner EcoCenter, and a Park City Sketch Crawl — offered across two days. This year’s education sessions and expo ended with a generous raffle. This year also continued the benefit offered last year of a complimentary professional headshot by the fabulous professional portrait photographer Camilla Myrrha. New this year was an end of day evening social where people enjoyed themselves and lingered far past the official social end time.

A big thank you is due to all attendees and sponsors. This event wouldn’t happen without you. Thank you to the chapter executive committee members. Organizing this event is a group effort and each executive committee member generous gave their time in different ways. A special thank you is due to Jenny Sonntag, our new UASLA Executive Director, who came onboard less than two months before the event. Finally, thank you to all the past chapter presidents. You each know the level of effort required for this event.

Look for the location of next year’s chapter annual meeting to be announced soon! This event is the event of the year for our chapter and will continue to grow and evolve to be even better.

Already looking forward to next year!
