PEACE AND LOVE MEMORIAL PROJECT

An exceptional concept executed thoughtfully and beautifully through design. The spatial organization and strong concept of war and peace is made clear in the design, and the bermed plane is an engaging addition that will create a truly memorable experience for all that visit.
— ASLA Colorado Awards Jury

There are memorials to honor those who have fought in war. This park was designed to tell the ‘sweet’ story of the ‘Candy Bomber’ and promote the idea that acts of love and kindness have more power to change hearts and minds than war.

Landscape Architect’s Role:

  • Share the story of the ‘Candy Bomber’.

  • Celebrate the acts of Gail Halvorson without making Gail the main theme.

  • Deeply move the hearts of visitors to consider the power of acts of peace and love.

  • Provide an enjoyable place for children and families to learn and play together.

  • Design the park to achieve the above objectives.
