An agriculturally productive landscape was a core objective of the project.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Located in the Eccles Historic District in Ogden, Utah, the Healy House was first completed in 1920. Io LandArch worked with the current owner to envision a garden for this English country manor that was both period-appropriate while providing for elegant and engaging outdoor spaces.

The formerly plain and uninviting landscape was transformed into a series of outdoor rooms through the use of site architecture. Stacked stone walls, brick and flagstone paving, art nouveau inspired metal fence, timber pergola, and cast-iron greenhouse create an architectonic framework layered with a rich and varied planting design inspired by the historic influence of Gertrude Jekyll, English cottage gardens, and native Utah plant associations.

An early concept sketch illustrating layered plant palettes and splashes of color.
